Sam-e  is a naturally occurring molecule in our bodies. It is used for three major reasons as a supplement. 1) it is one of natures most powerful antidepressants and mood stabilizers, 2) It reduces joint pain, 3) it is very good for the liver as it is a precursor to glutathione, one of the strongest antioxidants in our bodies. This is one of Dr. Doherty’s favorite supplements when working with gluten-free patients who often have one or more of the issues listed above. Sam-e can be depleted by malabsorption, chronic stress and pain. Sam-e is well tolerated by sensitve people. If you are taking antidepressants it can have an additive effect with these medications, so please consult with you practitioner before adding Sam-e. It usually takes up to three weeks to take effect, dosage varies from 200mg to 1200mg daily. Each tablet contains 200mg. Take in the morning preferably on an empty stomach.
